Natural Law
The philosophical concept of a moral code known by all persons through their reason. Natural law is distinct from the law of a state or jurisdiction and is generally conceptualized as coming from a higher power, such as God. The concept dates back at least to Aristotle. While many philosophers have argued that a natural law exists, they have had serious disagreements as to what it contains.
