Deferred Dividend A type of whole life insurance in which the policyholder does not receive any dividends the policy earns until a certain time (called the dividend period) has passed. If a policyholder dies during the dividend period, any dividends he/she would have earned are deposited in a fund that pays the dividends of policyholders who survive the period.
