Debt. A debt is an obligation to repay an amount you owe. Debt securities, such as bonds or commercial paper, are forms of debt that bind the issuer, such as a corporation, bank, or government, to repay the security holder. Debts are also known as liabilities.

Rick Hollander, executive vice president of Jones Lang LaSalle Real Estate Investment Banking, added: "The refinancing of the Sanderson and St Martins Lane hotels is one example of how structured debt finance is becoming an important part of the hotel investment market.
A memo from the City Administrative Office debt finance group said legal opinions from the City Attorney's Office and independent bond counsel have said the money could only be spent consistent with what voters approve.
Gerry Miller, finance specialist with the City of Los Angeles' Debt Finance Group, said the city could issue up to $935 million in bonds in the near term.
