In auto sales, to allow a potential customer to drive a new automobile instead of his/her own before he/she has officially bought it. A seller de-horses a customer from his/her current vehicle to discourage him/her from going to other dealerships. De-horsing may encourage a customer to finalize the purchase of the automobile he/she is driving.
