The sharp rise in commodities last spring was fueled largely by index funds--funds which base investment decisions primarily on commodity indices such as the Continuous Commodity Index.
The increase in the ISL reflects an increase in the general level of investment in the GSCI and other commodity indices.
This effort combines Deutsche Bank's leadership in global currency and commodity product structuring with the exchange-traded fund (ETF) product marketing expertise of PowerShares, who together plan to develop additional ETFs that track currency and commodity indices under a joint or composite brand.
