Chief Security Officer The officer in a corporation responsible for the safety and security the company's employees, assets (including cash), and products. The chief security officer is especially important to technology companies because of the specific dangers posed by hackers and others who would disrupt operations electronically. Because of the graying line between information and security, some companies combine the CSO and the chief information officer into the role of chief information security officer.
