Often used in risk arbitrage. Proposal, either hostile or friendly, to acquire a target company through the payment of cash for the stock of the target. Compare to exchange offer.

Cash Offer
In mergers and acquisitions, an offer to buy a publicly-traded company in exchange for cash. A cash offer may be either friendly or hostile. It differs from other types of takeover offers that may buy the company in exchange for stock and/or debt.
