A professional designation for a technical analyst. Technical analysts use statistics to determine trends in security prices, and make or recommend investment decisions based on those trends. In order to be certified as a CMT, one must be a member of the Market Technicians Association (MTA) and pass a series of examinations measuring one's knowledge of the theory and practice of technical analysis. Furthermore, one must agree to abide by the MTA's standards of ethical practice.
