Central African CFA Franc The currency of five former French colonies and one former Spanish colony in Africa: Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo (Republic of), Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon. It was introduced in 1945. For most of its history, it was pegged to the French franc, but, in 1999, the peg switched to the euro. While it is of equal value to the Central African CFA franc, the two currencies are not interchangeable. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
