Business 1. A company or other organization engaged in commerce. A business sells goods and/or services to clients. For example, a widget maker selling widgets to wholesalers or retailers is a widget business. A business may be for-profit or non-profit. 2. Informal; an industry. For example, one may refer to the automotive industry as the "car business." 3. Informal; commerce. One who buys or sells with a company is said to "do business" with that company.
