A government-owned corporation in Canada that provides financing, advisory, and venture capital services for small businesses and start-ups. The BDC helps promote economic growth, particularly for exporters and technology companies. Bonds issued by the BDC are guaranteed by the Canadian government. It was established as the Industrial Development Bank in 1944.
