Brought Over The Wall The situation of an employee in the research department of an investment bank - usually a research analyst - who has been brought over to work for the underwriting department with a focus on a particular company. Notes: 'The Chinese Wall' refers to the division placed between the analysts of an investment bank and the bank's underwriting department. So once the underwriting process is complete, the research employee who has been brought over the Wall is not allowed to comment on any information learned in the underwriting process until it has become public knowledge. Brought over the wall Compelling a research analyst of an investment bank to work in the underwriting department for a corporate client, therefore allowing for the transmission of insider information.
