Broadbanding In human resources, the practice of a company to have only a few pay grades but a great deal of latitude within each grade. For example, a company may have only three pay grades: one ranging from $35,000 to $55,000, one from $60,000 to $80,000, and one from $85,000 to $105,000. Broadbanding gives a company the leeway to reward good performance with increased salary without necessitating promotion to a higher position. This helps keep the company from becoming top heavy.
