Black Thursday The name given to Thursday, October 24th, 1929, when the New York Stock Exchange plummeted, leading to the Great Depression of the 1930's. Notes: As a result of this day, the Securities Act of 1933 and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 were formed in order to increase market regulation in hopes of preventing future catastrophic events.
