Silicon Valley

An area in California, centering on San Francisco and San Jose, known for the large number of computer and internet companies. Silicon Valley became important during the dot-com bubble in the 1990s. It remains important both in investing and for the technical expertise of its companies and employees. Prominent companies such as Google and Intel are headquartered in Silicon Valley.
