Best's rating A rating A.M. Best Co. assigns to insurance companies based on the company's ability to meet its obligations to its policyholders. Best's Rating A measure of the credit quality of an insurance company. That is, the rating measures an insurance company's ability to pay claims that might be made. Best's ratings can be between A and F, with A being the highest rating. Best's ratings have historically been issued for insurance companies exclusively, but, more recently, they have been applied to a few small banks. They are issued by the A.M. Best Company.
