A.M. Best and Company A company known for its ratings of the credit quality of insurance companies. A rating issued by A.M. Best and Company measures an insurance company's ability to pay claims that might be made. The ratings can be between A and F, with A being the highest rating. Best's ratings have historically been issued for insurance companies exclusively, but, more recently, they have been applied to a few small banks.
