Bank Holiday
The term for a public holiday in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. As the term implies, banks are closed on bank holidays, as are many other businesses. Employees who work on bank holidays often are paid extra. Bank holidays may or may not coincide with cultural or religious festivals.
