Baath Party

Baath Party
A political party in the Middle East advocating secular, socialist policies intended to free Arab-majority countries from Western influence. It was established in 1940 in Syria. Its Syrian and Iraqi branches split in 1955 and became antagonistic toward each other. It became the ruling party of Syria in 1963 and was in charge of Iraq from 1968 until 2003.

Aa Maliki and his fellow Shiite politicians have repeatedly warned in recent weeks against what they contend is a plot by members of the Baath Party to return to power, with what some suggest is the help of Sunni-ruled Arab nations.
BAGHDAD, Nov 22 (KUNA) -- Baghdad's operation command released on Sunday video confessions of three men from Saddam Hussein's former Baath party who admitted to have targeted Iraq's ministry of Justice in what's been known as "bloody Sunday," on October 25, killing and wounding around 1,000 people.
2009 shows that the dissolved Baath Party is responsible for the deadly explosions.
