| The agency said it supports the NFPA's decision to include an automatic sprinkler system requirement for all long-term care facilities in the 2006 LSC. Dave Aspin believes automatic sprinkler systems in homes will someday be as commonplace, and as mandatory, as smoke alarms. CMS insists that all SNFs conform to fire-prevention codes formulated by the NFPA, but allows older buildings constructed of noncombustible materials to apply for a waiver that avoids retrofitting with automatic sprinkler systems. |
