TD Ameritrade
A company that offers brokerage services over the Internet. It allows clients to buy, sell, and short sell stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and other investment vehicles. A client manages his/her online brokerage account by giving orders online, which TD Ameritrade then fills. TD Ameritrade sometimes charges a flat fee per trade (as opposed to a commission) for conducting transactions, but it does not provide individual investment advisory services. It was established in 1983 as a clearing broker and launched the first online brokerage service for individuals in 1996. It is based in Omaha, Nebraska.
