Alternative Delivery Procedure

Any provision in a futures contract that allows the buyer or the seller to make or receive delivery in a way that differs from the procedures set forth in the contract. A party often activates an alternative delivery procedure when it becomes advantageous for his/her investment strategy. See also: Cash settlement.
