Agreement on Import Licensing

An agreement to create a framework to eliminate licensing requirements for imports. These licenses, while not actually tariffs, were considered an unnecessary barrier to international commerce because they added to exporters' expenses. The Agreement was negotiated in the 1970s by members of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.
