Acid Rain

Precipitation with low pH, usually resulting from excessive sulfur or nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere. Acid rain is detrimental to both plant and animal life. It has become less common since the 1970s, when governments began to take steps to reduce the sulfur released into the air.
