Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development
A financial institution intended to benefit international development in Arab countries. AFESD was established in Kuwait in 1972 under the aegis of the League of Arab States. The AFESD has several billion dollars in assets. See also: Petrodollar.

AFESD finances projects*Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit on Sunday met with Director General and Chairman of Board of the Kuwait-based Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) Abdullatif Al-Hamad, who is currently on a visit to Jordan to sign an agreement of JD70 million loan facility awarded by the AFESD to develop the Samra Power Generating Station.
The overall contribution of AFESD to fund the power plant which will have a capacity of 400 megawatts has reached 180 million dinars.
